Definition: Serum Glutamic Oxalacetic Transaminase is an enzyme present in hepatocytes and heart cells. Another name is aspartate aminotransferase or AST.
Usefulness: SGOT is released into the blood in larger quantities in cases where the heart or liver becomes damaged.
